what do you think ?
Legendary country star Ray Price is not happy with reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Blake Shelton, and he’s not afraid to say so in public. In a Facebook post today, the 87-year-old entertainer took issue with comments Shelton made to GAC, in which he derided old country fans for not understanding the music of the new generation.
Shelton made his comments as a part of GAC’s ‘Backstory’ episode devoted to his career. “Nobody wants to listen to their grandpa’s music,” the singer stated, adding, “And I don’t care how many of these old farts around Nashville going, ‘My God, that ain’t country!’ Well that’s because you don’t buy records anymore, jacka–. The kids do, and they don’t want to buy the music you were buying.”
Price read the comments via Saving Country Music, and he wasted no time in responding, posting the following:
“
“It’s a shame that I have spend 63 years in this business trying to introduce music to a larger audience and to make it easier for the younger artists who are coming behind me. Every now and then some young artist will record a rock and roll type song , have a hit first time out with kids only. This is why you see stars come with a few hits only and then just fade away believing they are God’s answer to the world. This guy sounds like in his own mind that his head is so large no hat ever made will fit him. Stupidity Reigns Supreme!!!!!!! Ray Price (CHIEF “OLD FART” & JACKA–”) ” P.S. YOU SHOULD BE SO LUCKY AS US OLD-TIMERS. CHECK BACK IN 63 YEARS (THE YEAR 2075) AND LET US KNOW HOW YOUR NAME AND YOUR MUSIC WILL BE REMEMBERED.
Musical comedian Ray Stevens also responded to Shelton’s comments in a statement through his publicist. “I just heard Blake Shelton’s remarks about ‘old farts and jacka–es’ and all I want to know is how he found out the title to my next single because it’s been a closely guarded secret here at the ‘Home,’” he said with trademark humor. “It will be available on vinyl or 8-Track at your nearest Tower Records store.”
Shelton himself responded to Price’s comments via Twitter this afternoon, hoping to clear the air and apologize for offending the legend. “Whoa!!! I heard I offended one of my all time favorite artists Ray Price by my statement ‘Nobody wants to listen to their grandpas music,’” he posted. But Shelton didn’t back down from his statements, arguing that new artists have to keep re-inventing country music “the way Mr. Price did along his journey as a mainstream country artist.”
Shelton cited Price’s classic ‘For the Good Times’ as an example of a track that was groundbreaking in its time. But he still insists that his initial commentary — while maybe too strongly-worded — was accurate.
“I absolutely have no doubt I could have worded it better (as always ha!) and I apologize to Mr. Price and any other heroes of mine that it may offended,” Shelton concluded. “I meant every word I said. Country music is my life and it’s future AND past is important to me. I’ll put my love and respect and knowledge about it up against anybody out there… ANYBODY…”

Blake is confused, I think. He seems to have no interest in making good music....he's interested is what sells 'in the moment'. He has no idea of the concept of "classic", just what the popular kids say they want.

I thought that I couldn't lose any more respect for Blake Shelton... wrong. All he has to do is open his damn mouth and I hate him more. He doesn't know what country is, it's all about the fame and money for him obviously. All he said was who he wants to BUY his music... jeez.

SAME here. I thought I had no respect for him before, but like you I lost tons more after this. He trashed the heart and soul of country music. And he said it in the most disrespectful way he could have. What a jerk. I was planning to buy his newest song Sure Be Cool if You Did, but I'm going to save my money and buy some REAL country music- the music that the "old farts" are buying.
Traditional country is amazing. I understand it's not for everybody, but anyone who blatantly trashes it has no appreciation or respect for country music and its roots whatsoever. Without that foundation, we wouldn't have any of today's country.

Because all he cares about is the money! He wouldn't have a damn JOB if it wasn't for traditional country so he better shut his face.

Who is his public relations person? They should be fired for letting him say such stupid crap. Blake Shelton would be nothing without Miranda and The Voice. More and more people are becoming dissatisfied with him and Miranda both. His voice is nothing special and he doesn't write any of his own songs. I'd like to see one of these old guys confront him to his face. Anyone who has no more respect for those who came before him has no business being an Opry member IMO

I never knew of him to write any songs. I have his greatest hits album because I love the song Hillbilly Bone and I don't think he was listed as a writer on most of the songs

I have a thing for people who write their own music. I don't have any favorite artists who don't actually. As long as they write a few of their own songs, respect...those who write all of their own songs and never anyone else's... TONS OF RESPECT.

I'm surprised Miranda Lambert hasn't issued her own smart@$$ tweet defending Blake's stupid remarks. Or maybe she has and I just haven't heard about it yet

Re: what do you think ?
I'm very disappointed in him. I am a fan of his but I am very very disappointed in him.
He's right to a point, the kids these days who think Taylor swift is a country singer wouldn't know Ray Price's name, heck they probably would say " who?" if you said Clint Black for example. That is really sad.
However he lost his mind when he went on this rant Especially when he said jackass old fart and grandpas music and totally disrespected the legends of country music.
Maybe just maybe If there were more mainstream stations that would play the "grandpa's " music then the kids who think that Taylor swift is a country singer would learn to appreciate the real country music and be able to tell the difference between real country and this pop crap that is played now. I could care less if Taylor swift writes all her own songs and can strum a guitar or a banjo, she is not a country singer.
Unfortunately that isn't going to happen. Ray price is absolutely right, and it's very very very sad.

Re: what do you think ?
It's really big of Ray Price to accept Blake's apology, but Blake is an arrogant phony and he can't take his comments back, and he won't gain the respect back he lost from fans. I believe he apologized because he realized he yet again put his foot in his mouth (an extremely common occurrence with him) and it was hurting image and career.

Blake is doing damage control. I don't think he realized how angry people would get. He was probably half drunk when he made those comments.

Re: what do you think ?
She has gotten to where she is almost as obnoxious as Blake at times. I liked them as a couple before they got married, but after the wedding they have just become almost as unbearable as Kim Kardashian and Kanye WestChicaCherryCola wrote:Miranda_3 wrote:I'm surprised Miranda Lambert hasn't issued her own smart@$$ tweet defending Blake's stupid remarks.
